John Allen Brinkley, Jr.

John Brinkley graduated from Huntsville High, attended the University of Alabama and graduated from Athens State University and Miles College of Law. John is married to the former Kristen Leigh Davis of Pinson and they have four children. Wini (2005), John Allen (2007), Lyn (2009) and Andy (2011). He is actively engaged in the general practice of law in Alabama – handling mostly civil/plaintiff cases and criminal defense.

Upon passing the bar, John was admitted to practice in the United States District Court – Northern District of Alabama and all the state courts in Alabama. He joined the state bar and the local bar where he served on its Executive Committee. John was also on the Executive Board for the Madison County Young Lawyers Section for several years before becoming president. During his time as a board member, the Judicial Appreciation Party began and flourished into yearly event thanking the judges in Madison County, including its municipalities and towns, for their hard work. Attendees bring their significant others to meet other families in the legal community.

Additionally, John serves as a board member to the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program (MCVLP) when new life was breathed into the MCVLP which grew from 30 lawyers in 2005 to roughly 300 by 2012. Now, it closes over 400 cases per year assisting those who need it most and have the fewest resources to allocate to reach justice or have their day in court. John is very proud of the growth and hopes to continue assisting people in need.

The Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit appointed John as one of three attorneys to be on the Local Indigent Defense Advisory Board. This board determined the most efficient and effective method of handling indigent cases in Madison County for those facing incarceration without sufficient means to afford effective counsel. Additionally, he was one of five local attorneys placed on the Indigent Representation Administration Committee to administer the court-appointed indigent defense plan adopted in the circuit.

John has also served as a Pro Bono Task Member for the Alabama State Bar and, in 2012, he was elected to the Board of Bar Commissioners for the Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit for a three year term representing the local attorneys and the State Bar.
